Slim Jim, a highly meme-able meat stick and beef jerky brand, decided to engage in a playful and unconventional project using the latest web3 technologies.
Their aim for this project was to create something highly inclusive for all, despite personal expertise in the web3 space concentrated in a few people. This project would offer a fair balance to their biggest fans, so they can have the chance to win big with a new NFT by the brand itself.
After greatly considering how to develop the concept and launch the project to everyone, they launched their inaugural web3 community – the Slim Jim Meataverse.
Working alongside 180 Marketing and Unit 9, it was clear we aimed to undertake a unique and one-of-a-kind project for the SlimJim community.
The creative flexibility and innovation we intended to infuse into this project required thorough research to determine how we could launch an NFT that was both intriguing on its own but also capable educating its owners (many who were first time owners) of how to freeze, burn, and perform various actions tied to NFTs.
In the discovery phase, we strategized and developed the means to create an NFT collection using a hybrid of a on-chain/off-chain solution set on the Polygon network. There also came the challenge to make the metadata highly flexible to offer its owners the capability to change the traits of the NFT however they'd like through the 3rd party website.
The NFT collection traits would need to include:
This would also allow us to hold a greater deal of flexibility with with the metadata, so owners of the NFT could customize their GigaJims however they'd like by "mixing sauces", dipping their gigajim into those sauces,
The MEAT-averse masterfully combines cutting-edge technology with highly engaging content. At its launch, Gigajims were swiftly snapped up, and many big fans claimed the NFT by going through the landing page to get their GigaJims quickly connected to their cryptocurrency wallets, and then actively trading NFTs on the public market.
Using a combination of an on-chain solution with the NFTs being the legitimate web3 asset, and the off-chain part being the metadata that is hosted in a highly protected environment, users could customize the visual characteristics of their NFTs however they'd like and even reward themselves with it. The more the mixed the sauces and then applied or "dipped their meatstick" into the mixed sauces, they were able to evolve their GigaJim NFTs into becoming that much rarer overtime.
This initial phase of the Meataverse is just the beginning. We have designed the platform and its underlying system for an ever-evolving expansion in anticipation with future updates - stay tuned for what's next as SlimJim ventures further into the Web3 universe in the years to come.

Most NFT projects have many common traits and we wanted to do something both simple and different from the other projects out there.
The approach involved creating a multi-step UI/UX to draw users from the landing page into the minting process, followed by customizing their GigaJim NFTs. Additionally the style would be reminiscent of a flash game site from the late 1990s to early 2000s.
Newcomers would be read and go through the typical showcase of an NFT website in parts similar to what other big brands had done in Pepsi, Adidas, etc. Once interested in minting the NFT, they'd create an account via their email, which would connect them into automatically generating their wallet and the transfer of their NFT. From there, they would be presented with the "lab page" which would allow them to gather sauces and mix those sauces to create their unique mixed sauce.
With the mixing of these off-chain sauces, they could then mix their on-chain asset with the GigaJim to create a unique new traits to show up on the frontend of the Opensea marketplace, displaying their new working NFTs to everyone. Mixing and Dipping as a mechanism could be used an infinite amount of times to change the look and feel of their GigaJim NFTs.
